Tigers have been the great attraction to the tourists in India. Many of them of the would come to India just for few glimps of the wild dangerous animal.
If you are planning to visit the wild life in India, following places should be visited.
1) Jaipur/ Ranthambore
Ranthambore National Park has 410 sq. kms. or 160 sq. miles of area covered with dhok, ranj, salai, ber and palm trees, with belts of dry deciduous forest with ancient banyans and pipals opening into large grassy meadows. The park has three water attractions Rajabagh Lake, Milak Talao (Pond) & Padam Talao which attract a variety of migratory birds. They are covered with pink lotuses on which birds often feed. The park has the population of Tigers, Panther, Sloth Bear, civet, Sambar, Chital, Chinkara, Alligator, Crocodile, etc.
2) Bharatpur/ Agra
Bharatpur Bird sanctuary is often referred to as “The Bird’s Paradise”. The Keoladeo Ghana National Park at Bharatpur has as many as 350 species of birds in an area of 29 kms. or 18 sq. miles Bharatpur is the nesting ground of over 120 species of birds. Additionally, it receives winter migrants from Central Asia and Siberia, many of whom travel as much as 6,400 kms or 3968 miles to reach this wetland reserve.
The bird life consists of great and little cormorants, egrets, herons, painted stork, open billed stork, spoonbill, ibis, dalmatian pelican, common crane, paradise fly catcher and crested honey buzzard. In the Mammals - wild boar, sambar, chital, blackbuck, jackals and hyenas
3) Agra/ Khajuraho
The Bandhavgarh National Park in Central India falls within one of India’s few remaining areas of natural forest. Its steep cliffs, rocky hills covered with 44,884 hectares or 110,863 acres of dense Sal & Bamboo forests makes it an ideal terrain for Tigers. The wild life population includes Chital (Spotted Deer), Sambar, Barking Deer, Nilgai (blue bull), chinkara, Chowsingha (four headed antelope), Gaur (the world largest Oxen), Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Leopard. The National Park has an interesting mix of jungle, scrub forest wooded ravines and high cliffs where eagles nest. It has a-number archeological ruins and caves and an impressive old fort overlooking it.
4) Bandhavgarh/ Kanha
Kanha National park is located in the heart of India’s Kipling country, it has open grasslands, dense deciduous forest, high plateau and offers good wildlife spotting from elephant back or jeep. Resting tigers are fairly easily seen particularly from elephants in the late morning. These are enormous herds of the beautiful chital spotted deer. The once rare barasinghs (swamp deer) also appear quite often. Look out for the dhole, the reddish dog-like animals. You might also spot the very elegant blackbuck, the 4-horned antelope and tiny mouse deer
5)Laccadives - The Last of Enchanted Isles
Deep in the azure waters of the Indian Ocean lies the last of the enchanted isles. The Lakshwadeep or Laccadive Islands, are a string of little known islands lying approximately 200 miles off the south-west coast of India.
6) Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
Cradled is mist shrouded mountains, Periyar nestles close to the dense rain forests of the high ranges. The luxuriant vegetation, sudden gushing waterfalls and an exhilarating view of the velvet valleys below form a scenic background to the journey up the Ghats.
7) Kumarakom - Backwater Resort

8) Pichavaram Mangrove Forest
Fourteen kilometres or 9 miles from Chidambaram in the State of Tamil Nadu is the extensive Pichavaram Mangrove forest. Mangrove forests constitute unique ecosystems. They are found in the coastal areas of tropical and sub-tropical regions where the level of the saline water rises and falls with the tide twice every day.
