GUARD AGAINST BURGLARS

Professional burglars seldom enter a house which they believe to be occupied.   They look for sign to make mailboxes, delivered newspapers, a lonesome cat, dark houses with lighted entrances, or with a single living room light, open garage door etc.

When leaving for an evening, leave some lights burning, perhaps a radio playing.  When leaving for an extended period, have mail and other deliveries (newspapers etc.) held or suspended, lend out domestic animals, and don’t draw shades.  Have your phoney is connected so that an on-the-spot telephone check to find out if you are at home, can’t be made.  Avoid newspaper publicity on your projected vacation.

If you are the only adult male member of the house and if you are to go out and are not returning the same night or for a couple of nights or more, contrive to tell your people at home in a domestic conversational way in the hearing of your neighbours and others that you are returning the same afternoon or evening.
