Stomach troubles:
Brush your teeth in the morning and drink a good cup of cold water to avoid stomach disorder throughout the day. Grape juice is good for you : Some fruits, such as grapes,
raspberries and strawberries, possess naturally occurring phenols and tannins that will inactivate viruses. The latest investigations demonstrate that the grape is also able to kill a variety of viruses, including those which cause stomach upsets and polio. Plain unfermented grape-juice was found to have higher quantities of the active phenols and tannins than wine, making it an even more effective anti-viral agent. The periodical, “Science”, repoited that white wine contained about 260 milligrammes of phenols per litre, red wine about 2200 milligrammes, and plain grape-juice 3300 milligram’s.
For an “out of sorts” stomach, mild diarrhoea or a rebellious tummy, take a glass full of mild solution of weak tea to which two teaspoons of sugar and the juice of three or four slices of sour lime are added. Garlic has been used from ancient times as a worm expeller. The labouring classes in India especially in the south give garlic to their children for lumbricold worms.
Garlic is used with success for stomach troubles and disorders. Excessive stomach acidity can be easily reduced by eating garlic.
Poultices of garlic applied to the spine have been recommended in cases of gastro-intestinal catarrh where the poultice is also applied over the abdomen. The tender shoots of the guava plant eaten along with a little salt and ginger will ease severe stomach-ache.
Tomatoes have a great healing power. The regular use of tomatoes will cure many diseases of eyes, stomach and kidney. The leaf of bitter gourd (karela, hagala) kills worms in the bowels and also increases the milk in nursing mothers.
The bitter gourd fruit is a tonic of the stomach, stimulant, antibilious, laxative, and antidiabetic. It is useful in fever, cough, piles, leprosy, worms in the bowels, gonorrhea, gout, rheumatism, diseases of the spleen-and liver and jaundice. It purifies the blood.
A teaspoonful of the juice of the bitter gourd fruit is useful in dysmenorrhea or difficult menstruation.
An instant relief for stomach-ache is as follows:- Mix up the juices of a few mint leaves, a small piece of ginger and a lime with a little black salt, and take it on an empty stomach.
When one suffers from gas in the stomach, put a drop of castor oil on to the navel, and then press a good pinch of snuff or asafetida (hing).
All ordinary stomach-aches can be instantly cured by drinking half a tumbler of pure cold water in which one teaspoon of wood ash has been dissolved. If hair has accidentally been swallowed into the stomach, eat pineapple or “nerale” fruit. Bad effects due to the hair will be remedied.
Vinegar is contra-indicated in all cases of stomach or intestinal disorders or for people suffering from nervous strain or anxiety.
If there is pain on any part of the body due to gastric troubles, dry ginger powder mixed with mustard seed oil should be applied and massaged over there daily.
