Do’s and don’ts for asthmatic patients :
1. Avoid foods to which you have been found sensitive after allergy testing.
Try and avoid dusty atmosphere.
Do not dust furniture or clean cup-lioards containing old papers and junk, or wear & double muslin mask before doing so.
Stop smoking.
Keep a salbutamol inhaler (Ventolin) in your pocket.
Never over-load your stomach; eat small, frequent meals.
Do not sleep in a room which has been freshly painted or white-washed, for a week.
Keep your nasal passages clean and irrigate them with tepid saline water two to three times a day.
Breathing exercises are very important for asthmatics. A simple exercise to follow is: Take a deep inhalation and breathe out slowly and completely. As the breath goes out of your nose and pursed lips, your tummy should go in to the maximum limit. Relax again. Let the tummy go out. The air will rush in automatically. Repeat the same procedure again. This can be done 20 to 30 times in a day.
