Avoid external links, if you need to add external links add it through a script and in robots.txt disallow search engines from crawling it.
Name the html pages with the keywords like my-page-keywords.html
Use keywords in page content in different tages, heading tags, different size font. Bold the keywords.
Use descriptive description in meta tags, do not add too many keywords.
Use relative keywords and avoid keywords which are very popular.
Use combination of keywords.
Approach other sites and ask for a link exchange, sites with 4 or higher Page Rank.
Get listed on dmoz.org, once you get listed there, you’ll get listed on many directories automatically.
Have content on site which is unique, or atleat present it in such way that it looks unique to the search engine
